Meditations
Meditations is Chris Booth’s physical and spiritual response to the land, the mountain and the Kabi Kabi People, the Traditional Owners.
The locally sourced concave shaped basalt boulders are laid out as a poem, in meditation with each other, humble to the land, the mountain and the people.
As interviewed by Erle Levey, Chris Booth describes the work: It continues the philosophy of understanding the land, the energy from landmarks such as Cooroy Mountain that sits in the background and the importance to indigenous people.
Meditations has been created out of rocks from Sunshine Basalt at Wolvi, something Chris insists upon rather than importing materials.
Meditations was inspired by the mountain which dominates the landscape of Moon Mountain Sanctuary. “it really is extraordinary”.
Chris arranged the cups of the rocks so they open up like clam shells and are “speaking” to each other.
There are “meditations” going on within thee rocks. The conclave shapes mean they are reflecting and emitting their own energy.
The installation is respectful of the land, of the environment, and of the mountain. It reflects the mist of time.
